Five at Five

Hi everybody!  (Hi Dr. Nick!).  I'm back from my holiday hiatus and ready to promise regular updates and not deliver.  I've noticed I do that about every 2-3 weeks or so, and I'm embarrassed about it, but what can I say?  I'm a lazy bitch.  Anyway, here's some good stuff:

One of my favorite bloggers, Greg Djerejian at The Belgravia Dispatch, provides yet another stunning example of the sneering contempt the French media holds for the U.S., this time over our tsunami relief efforts. Meanwhile, Power Line gives a much truer picture of the wonderful and essential work the U.S. has been doing to actually help the affected, rather than just talking about it like the U.N., as does Mark Steyn.

So, let me get this straight.  USC pounded Oklahoma last night, 55-19.  USC beat Notre Dame 41-10.  Notre Dame gave up fewer points than Oklahoma, and had a smaller margin of defeat.  Ergo, Notre Dame is a better team than Oklahoma.  That logic is unassailable.  Also incontrovertible:  this list of "wisecracks" from SI's Pete McEntegert are neither wise nor cracks.  Discuss amongst yourselves.

This is guaranteed to make you shit your pants with surprise:  Al-Jazeera was in Saddam's pocket.

Life imitates Better Off Dead:  "This is pure snow!  Do you have any idea what the street value of this mountain is?"  What a bunch of putzes, the lot of 'em.

The NYT devotes some 1,800+ words to Saturday Night Live, and still can't convince me that it doesn't suck.  The writer also claims that Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon did the high school cheerleaders sketch.  And the Times wonders why they've lost credibility with most of America.
